About / The person behind it

The editor.

This is a one-person publication, on purpose. Everything here comes from someone who actually buys media for a living, not a content team writing to a keyword brief. Here's who that is, and the position behind every page.

Alfie Lagos, editor of What is Programmatic
About the editor

Twenty years of buying media, written down honestly.

Alfie Lagos is MD of Lexlab, an independent Melbourne media agency, and founder of Neuravo, a human-augmented precision AI media platform. The clue is in "human-augmented": the AI does the heavy lifting, a planner still makes the call.

What is Programmatic? is the publication he wishes had existed when he started: plain-English, vendor-neutral, and written by someone who still has to make the numbers work on a Friday afternoon. No thought leadership, no roadmap fiction, just the working version of how this stuff actually behaves.

On craft

Many ways to reach a customer.

One practitioner's view, drawn from twenty years of buying media. Disagree freely. The loudest opinions are usually learning the most. Nothing here is gospel, and the day it stops being argued with is the day it stops being useful.

Plurality is the point.

On AI

As foundational as the wheel. Keep humans at the gate.

We use it daily and the leverage is real. But the accountability sits with the human in the room. Try blaming your LLM to the CFO when a campaign goes south. The tools get a vote, never the final say.

Keep the slop out.
/ The Despatch

One email a month. Worth opening.

A short, opinionated read on what's moving in Australian programmatic. Plus the new pieces published. No autoresponders, no funnels, no "exclusive content" gated behind a survey.
